Description
This song cycle deals with the relationship between Abaelard (1079-1141) and Heloïse (1101-1164). At the end of her life, Heloïse reflects retrospectively on her emotionally charged time with Abaelard. This implicitly addresses current issues such as isolation and the relationship between the sexes. Due to the focus on the existential themes of the medieval couple such as closeness-distance, power, violence and death, the songs also have contemporary references. The song-texts are excerpts from longer texts written by the German psychoanalyst Alfred Walter. The former title was «Nichts hab´ ich gesucht als Dich – Monodrama in liedhafter Form». Inspiration for the compositional process was also a poem of Erna Heller «Aus unsichtbaren Brunnen rauscht die Zeit».
