Hilde Domin is one of the most important German lyricists of the second half of the 20th century. She wrote three texts under the title “Lieder der Ermutigung” (songs of comfort), which are included in the song-cycle and gave name to it. In compositional matters the songs go the way of an extended tonality, picking up the metaphors of Domin and creating a narrative atmosphere, that takes the listeners on a poetic journey. The first three of the chosen songs were premiered at the Don Wright Faculty of Music (Western University London Ontario, Canada) on March 3rd 2017 by Gabrielle Baerg, Christine Tithecott and Hillary Tufford; the last two songs at the Jahrestagung der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Kunst und Psychopathologie des Ausdrucks (DGPA) in Munich on September 23rd 2022 by Ljiljana Winkler and Stephanie Knauer.
